Curator | Enclosure | Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, Boston | 2013
Enclusure a site specific installation, a collaboration between Philip Fryer’s TOOMS and artist Sophia Sobers, which incorporated a fully immersive visual environment and live sound performance. The reception was a fundraiser to support the institutions arts programming and its upcoming retrospective of Puerto Rican collective Papel Machete.

Enclosure explores the connection between the symbolic cultivation of plants and the space it exists in, suggesting a narrative of a person who is tied to the caring of these plants in the system he has created for himself. Similarly, TOOMS mixes original and found audio footage—often from natural sources like water and wind—creating droning, beatless landscapes mixed live via cassette tapes. The installation will stir up several contemporary questions: can we truly control the wild, or must we allow some things to remain untouched by technology?
